Hello Team Louisville,

I'm a strong Cat 3 racer from TX and moving out to KY in June this year. I should have my Cat 2 upgrade by then. I currently race for Velossimo Racing Team presented by Jack and Adam's bicycles out of Austin, TX. I am trying to find out information about the race scene in KY and states around KY. Any information about road racing would be very appreciated. If you have info or questions my email is david.arringdale@gmail.com

Welcome to Kentucky. The Louisville/Leinxgton area has a really strong racing/training scene.

Spring Road Series http://www.kyanaseries.com

Master's Nationals in June

LMPD Crit in July

Dino MTB Racing Series

Kentucky Mountain Bike Association Series (www.kymba.org)

Ohio Valley Cross Series (www.ovcx.com) in the Fall

There is also a very strong club here (http://www.louisvillebicycleclub.org/) of which we are their racing team. We're made up of developmental racers (4/5's) and a strong 3/4 team.

To add to what Steven posted, we're lucky to have a growing community here in the region. You didn't mention where in KY you were moving, but assuming you are headed to the Louisville area you will find a bunch of folks dedicated to improving and growing our racing scene. In addition to the events listed above the Ironman Louisville Triathlon will have it's second year in 2008 as well as a USGP of Cyclocross event in October.

Thank you for the input. It'll be helpful I'm sure. I guess I didn't say where I was moving to, but you were correct to assume Louisville. How are the hills out there? Is it all flat or is it alright for climbers too? I guess it would be with all the mountain biking...

We have a lot of rolling hills with a few short, steep climbs mixed in. Locally, the longest climb is around a mile at 5% or so. You can check out this list of local hills:

Look for the Jefferson & Oldham counties, Indiana Knobs and Jeff. County Mem Forest......this are all very local and part of the regular training rides for local racers. So no real mountains. Louisville itself is flat, but it starts getting some hills on the fringe of town.
